Weighted Classes Should be Weighed
In this new school year, I am taking four weighted classes and one that I think should be. (For those who may not know or understand: a weighted class is generally more rigorous, therefore you receive one (1) more point for your GPA. [i.e. receiving a B in a regular class is worth 3.0, but in a weighted class is worth 4.0]) My weighted classes are: Differentiated (higher-level) Chemistry, Differentiated Advanced Algebra (Algebra 2), Differentiated English 10, and Advanced Placement (college credit is earned) World History. I am also in a Spanish class that covers two year's worth of information in one year. It is not weighted, but I will receive twice the credit of a normal class.
Anyway, it has come to my attention after my first week of these classes that not all of them are rigorous or seem to be thus far. Adv. Algebra, English, and Chemistry are all reasonably easy while World History is difficult. Spanish is not hard, but there is a lot more work to do than in a class that only covers one year's worth of information. Perhaps it is because I do well with math, English, and science classes that I find them easier. However, I feel it is not only me that thinks that each has a different difficulty level.
I don't suppose it is realistic, but it would be nice if they could have some scale to compare the difficulty of a class to those of others. Then, they could decide whether or not a class should be weighted. Don't get me wrong. I will enjoy getting A's and getting more GPA points for them in some classes, but as Spanish, what if I slip to a B+? Then, my GPA for that class will be 3.5. Assuming I got A's in all my other classes, that would still put me at a 4.5 GPA overall, which is definitely something to be proud of.
I don't know.... I just thought that it was strange that some weighted classes are much less demanding than others. I guess the only other thing to take into consideration is that I am a year ahead of "normal" in both math and science courses because I started earlier.
Um.....as for trains.......let me think......what have I seen lately?......um........just pretty much the same old drag - coal trains - nothing too interesting.
--All as a train rolled by, leaving behind a whiff of smoke.
